By using high building mass, high insulation levels, and energy-efficient HVAC systems, the building is designed to use almost 30% less energy than a typical building of this type and size
The 17,889 sf Shop #3 services large National Guard vehicles. It is designed with a core of office and shared support spaces on the south end of the building, and the work area – five work bays and two parts rooms – on the north end of the building. The shared support area includes a large meeting room, a fitness room, and a technical library.
By using high building mass, high insulation levels, and energy-efficient HVAC systems, the building is designed to use almost 30% less energy than a typical building of this type and size. Natural daylighting, through clerestory windows and SolaTube® skylights, reduces or eliminates the need for electric lighting during the day. Exterior sunshades on the windows block direct sun in the summer, reduce glare, and assist light to penetrate farther into the building. The building met the criteria for a LEED Silver rating, and everything was documented. However, the owner chose not to submit to USGBC.
